1. Fill the food strainer with the berries, holding it over the mixing bowl. Carefully crush the berries with the wooden spoon, allowing the berry juices to drip into the bowl. Pour the berry juice into the jar, and dispose of the berry pulp that is left in the strainer.
2. Add the salt and the vinegar to the berry juice and stir until the salt has dissolved. If the berry ink seems to be too thick, add a small amount of water. Be careful, however, as adding water may dilute the bright color of the juice.
3. Carefully cut the end of the feather at a curved angle, creating a fairly sharp point. You may also want to clean out the end of the quill.
