US Navy Boarding

There were few more violent hand-to-hand combats than when one ship "boarded" another, and there were some nasty weapons designed to be used in such actions. Among them was the boarding axe, of the type seen here, together with its purpose-made holder and the Model 1862 belt from which the holder was suspended. The Model 1862 has an iron-frame, friction buckle, while the other belt is an older pattern with an simple brass hook.
